Justice Senator Badenberg rejects AfD ban
Berlin's Senator for Justice Felor Badenberg (non-party) rejects a ban on the AfD. "I think that would be legally and politically wrong," she said in an interview with the "Zeit Online" portal. She believes "that such a ban would not be legally valid", said Badenberg.
"You would have to prove that the AfD as a whole was hostile to the constitution - which the constitution protection authorities have only established in two state associations so far." Badenberg added: "Politically, I also consider it a declaration of bankruptcy to want to fight the AfD with a ban. We must confront the party on its content."
Despite Badenberg's rejection of an AfD ban due to its perceived legal and political incorrectness, some argue that the party's extremist tendencies warrant such a measure. The existence of extremist elements within certain AfD state associations has been acknowledged by the constitution protection authorities, but these instances have not been widespread enough to justify a ban on the party as a whole.
