Criminality - Justice calculates with the delivery of the detainee after arrest.
After his arrest in the southeastern European republic of Moldova, a convicted murderer from the Bruchsal Penitentiary in Germany is to be returned to a German prison as soon as possible. "There is currently no reason to doubt extradition through the Republic of Moldova," said the spokesperson of the responsible prosecution office in Pforzheim in response to an inquiry.
A formal extradition request will be made, which must be decided upon in Moldova. "We will prepare a corresponding request and transmit it via the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Justice to the Federal Ministry of Justice," said Prosecutor Henrik Blaßies to the German Press Agency.
Escape at the Baggersee
The 44-year-old inmate had eluded captors in Moldova's capital Chisinau on a Sunday. At the end of October of the previous year, the man had used a supervised exit from the Bruchsal Penitentiary in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, to a Baggersee in Germersheim, and had fled into an adjacent forested area. His electronic ankle monitor was found shortly thereafter in the city of Germersheim.
The man was serving life imprisonment in the prison in Bruchsal. The severity of his crime had also been established during the trial in 2012 by the Landgericht Karlsruhe. The man had murdered a 44-year-old person.
Unclear is when the Convict can be returned to Germany with successful negotiations. "A precise temporal projection for the extradition is currently not possible," said Blaßies. The extradition documents must be transmitted fundamentally within 18 days to the Republic of Moldavia. "Work is already being done on this," said the prosecutor. It is also not certain where the Man will be housed in custody upon his return, as this is ultimately a decision of the Ministry of Justice.
