Jusos nominate northern duo as top candidates
The Jusos have nominated Delara Burkhardt from Schleswig-Holstein and Manon Luther from Lower Saxony as their top candidates for the European elections. The two politicians received the necessary majority at the federal congress of the SPD youth organization on Saturday. The new European Parliament will be elected in June 2024.
The 31-year-old Burkhardt is already an MEP in Brussels and wants to continue campaigning for change. "It can't be right - the people of Schleswig-Holstein know this example - that every fish sandwich shop in Europe pays more tax than giant corporations do," she said. That is unfair and lacks solidarity.
Manon Luther from Braunschweig would like to become a new member of the EU Parliament. "If you want a real stance against anti-democrats, you have to vote for the anti-fascist original next year," said the 27-year-old. That would be social democracy.
With the nomination, the Jusos are calling on the SPD's European list to secure Burkhardt's re-entry and Luther's entry.
The SPD is expected to consider the Jusos' call and include Delara Burkhardt and Manon Luther in its European election list, aiming to reinforce the youth organization's influence within the German Social Democratic Party. With the upcoming European elections in June 2024, the Jusos' chosen candidates show commitment to fighting against corporate tax evasion and promoting social democracy, aligning with their anti-fascist stance.
