DWD - June weather: Cool at first, then lots of sun and little rain
Cool and frosty was the start of June in Saxony-Anhalt, before the summer made itself noticeable with high temperatures. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), temperatures dropped during the sheep slaughter in comparison to the beginning of the month into the lower single-digit range. In the Harz region, a light ground frost occurred.
However, in the second half of the month, the values rose and there was a series of hot and summery days - the highest temperatures, according to DWD, reached up to 33 degrees. This resulted in a monthly average of 17 degrees. In the reference period 1961 to 1990, the average was 16.1 degrees. In addition, the sun shone in this federal state for 225 hours. In total, 59 liters per square meter fell, which is slightly less than the long-term reference value.
Record rainfall in Southern Germany
Nationwide, the rainfall amounted to 91 liters per square meter. At the beginning of the month, record rainfall occurred in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, leading to flooding. Besides tropical humid air and high summer heat, the sheep slaughter was also observed nationwide, according to DWD. In the last week of the month, the summer then took off again and delivered several hot days.
The DWD data is based on initial evaluations of the results from approximately 2000 measuring stations in Germany. Prognostic data for the last three days of the month were used for the forecasts.
DWD Online
In contrast to the record rainfall experienced in Southern Germany, Saxony-Anhalt saw slightly less precipitation with 59 liters per square meter, as reported by the DWD. Despite this, occasional rain showers were noted in Saxony-Anhalt, contributing to the total monthly precipitation.
The German Weather Service (DWD) monitored rainfall across the country, including in Saxony-Anhalt, and reported that despite the weather being generally drier there, rain was still a part of the region's weather pattern during June.
