Springreiter Christian Kukuk has secured a medal at the Olympic Games. The 34-year-old from Riesenbeck remained faultless with Checker in the final and was one of three riders to advance to the jump-off. He will now compete against Swiss rider Steve Guerdat and Dynamix de Belheme, as well as Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten and Beauville Z for the gold medal.

The German equestrian team had already won four medals, including three golds, at these Summer Games before the final at the Château de Versailles. Kukuk secured the first individual medal in show jumping for Germany since 2004.

Meanwhile, Philipp Weishaupt was eliminated. The 39-year-old, who also works in Riesenbeck with Ludger Beerbaum, incurred five penalty points in Versailles with Zineday. Richard Vogel, 27, from Marburg, had already been eliminated in the qualification round the previous day, finishing with 12 penalty points and missing the final by a significant margin.

Kukuk's triumph in the show jumping event marks a significant achievement for Germany, earning a medal in France, where the Olympic Games are being held. The last time a German rider claimed an individual medal in this discipline was in 2004.
