- July's Solar Surge: Unprecedented Amount of Solar Energy Generated
Germany smashed its previous record for solar energy production in July. Approximately 10 terawatt-hours of solar energy was generated in July, surpassing any single-month production ever, despite having less sunlight than the year prior, as stated by Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) to the Funke media group. "Our strategies are proving effective, and we're seeing an increase in solar energy production daily. The expansion is progressing at a rapid pace," Habeck added.
The growth in solar panel installations has noticedably accelerated. In comparison to the previous year, the addition of new installations nearly doubled, reaching close to 14 gigawatts, as per data from the Federal Network Agency.
As per the Economics Ministry, the overall capacity of active solar installations surpassed 90 gigawatts by June's end. This indicates that the federal government's goal of having 88 gigawatts of installed capacity by 2024 was achieved halfway through the year. By 2030, the aim is 215 gigawatts.
Germany's impressive solar energy production isn't limited to July; the country continued to break records in August as well. Despite global supply chain challenges, Germany remains committed to its goal of reaching 215 gigawatts of solar energy capacity by 2030.
