Justice - Judges' association warns of overburdened public prosecutor's offices
The Lower Saxony Association of Judges (NRB) warns of an overload of public prosecutors due to a lack of personnel. The chairman of the NRB, Frank Bornemann, said in Hanover on Friday that there is currently a shortage of at least 130 public prosecutors across Lower Saxony. This increases the workload for each individual. "This is an absolutely unacceptable situation that is taking its toll on our employees," said Bornemann.
If no new posts were created for the 2024 financial year, there would be serious consequences for the rule of law. "The current situation means that more cases than before will inevitably have to be closed in order to cope with the volume of cases and create capacity for larger investigations. This can in no way be in the interests of a functioning constitutional state," said Bornemann.

The public prosecutor's office in Lower Saxony is part of the broader justice system, which is currently experiencing a staff shortage. This situation, as noted by the chairman of the Lower Saxony Association of Judges, Frank Bornemann, has led to an overburdening of public prosecutors' offices. The association has advised that if no new posts are created for the 2024 financial year, it could result in serious consequences for the upholding of the rule of law in Hanover and beyond.
