Journalist attacked at pro-Palestinian demonstration
At a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin, a journalist was allegedly obstructed and physically assaulted during her work. A police spokeswoman told the German Press Agency on Saturday that the police had taken the personal details of the suspects and opened an investigation. No further details were initially known.
According to the police, an estimated 6500 people had taken part in the protest march by Saturday evening (as of 17:00). Several pro-Palestinian groups across Germany had called for the demonstration. "Many from the left-wing political spectrum, who have already called for a "revolutionary May Day demonstration" this year, had also mobilized," the police said. The demonstration started at 2 p.m. on Alexanderplatz at the Neptune Fountain and was to continue to Potsdamer Platz.
Terrorists from Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, carried out massacres among civilians in Israel on October 7. Since then, Israel's army has been using air strikes and ground troops against targets in the sealed-off coastal area.
The assault on the journalist at the demonstration sparked concerns about safety during protests. Amidst the demonstrations against Israel's actions, some individuals engaged in acts of crime, potentially undermining the peaceful message of the pro-Palestinian movement.
