Job cuts planned at Goodyear: Works meeting scheduled
In view of the planned job cuts and production shutdown at Goodyear, a works meeting has been scheduled for next Thursday in Fürstenwalde (Oder-Spree district). This was announced by the district manager of the IG BCE trade union, Rolf Erler, on Friday. The union spoke of a major shock for the region and the traditional site in Fürstenwalde. Tires have been manufactured there for more than 80 years.
Goodyear plans to gradually discontinue tire production in Fürstenwalde in East Brandenburg by the end of 2027. This means that production will be gradually reduced over the next four years.
When and how much capacity will be removed is still unclear and is the subject of upcoming negotiations with the works council and the trade union, said a company spokesperson. The state government also wants to campaign for the preservation of jobs and hold talks with the management.
On Thursday, the management and plant management informed the workforce in Fürstenwalde about the closure plans. The last shift was informed at around 6.30 a.m. on Friday morning, according to the company spokesperson.
The Car factory suppliers in the region might face significant changes due to Goodyear's production shutdown. The union is working closely with the Car company's management and works council to minimize the impact on the Suppliers.
