Jewish Museum reopens to the public after one month

One of the oldest Jewish museums in Germany will reopen after being closed for around a month following the Hamas terror attack on Israel. The Jewish Museum in Augsburg will reopen to all visitors from Wednesday (November 8), the museum announced on Sunday.

The museum had been temporarily closed on October 8. The reason for this was the attack on Israel by the Islamist organization Hamas the day before. At the time, those responsible were reacting to the fact that the security situation for Jewish institutions in Germany had tightened. "During the closure, the security precautions were adapted to the current situation", the museum announced on Sunday.

The Jewish Museum Augsburg Swabia was established in 1985 as the first Jewish cultural museum in Germany. The museum's main building is located in the building complex of the monumental synagogue built at the beginning of the 20th century in the center of Augsburg.

Although the synagogue was set on fire by the Nazis during the November pogrom of 1938, it was not burned down. As there was a petrol station opposite, the fire was put out again. Today, the Augsburg Synagogue is one of the most outstanding Jewish places of worship in Germany.

Despite the escalation of conflicts between religions, particularly between Israel and extremist groups like Hamas, the Jewish Museum in Germany continues to stand as a testament to religious tolerance and cultural preservation. Visitors can now explore this showcase of Jewish history and culture, as the Museum reopens, having enhanced its security measures in response to the situation.
