State security - Jewish Hanukkah candlestick smeared again in Berlin
Shortly before the end of Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, another candelabra has been vandalized. On Friday morning, police officers noticed the Hanukkah candlestick set up at Frankfurter Tor with a plaque smeared with paint. The State Security Department of the State Office of Criminal Investigation, which is responsible for politically motivated acts, is investigating.
In recent weeks, several of the candlesticks set up for the Hanukkah festival in Berlin have been damaged or stolen. Investigations are also underway into possible anti-Semitic motives relating to Israel's war against the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas in Gaza.
The festival commemorates the rededication of the second Jewish temple in Jerusalem after an uprising against the Greeks in 164 BC and the "miracle of light" of a candelabrum burning for eight days. This year, it lasted from December 7 to the afternoon of December 15.

The investigation into the vandalism of the Hanukkah candlestick is being handled by the State Security Department of the State Office of Criminal Investigation, due to its potential links to politically motivated acts. This incident is concerning as it occurs in the context of LKA, or Berlin, which has seen multiple incidents of Hanukkah candlestick damage or theft this season, raising concerns about religious extremism. While celebrating Chanukka, it's important for the community to reinforce state protection and continue promoting peace and unity against acts of criminality.
