Jewish community to get video surveillance
The Jewish community of Bad Segeberg is to receive a video surveillance system for its synagogue. The system is a gift from CDU member of parliament Melanie Bernstein and representatives from politics and business in the district of Segeberg, said the chairman of the community, Walter Blender, on Friday. The system is intended for the panic room inside the synagogue. The "Hamburger Abendblatt" had previously reported on this.
"The system closes a security gap," said Blender. "You can see what's going on outside from the inside." This will be a great reassurance for the members of the community. The Jewish community set up the panic room on the advice of the State Office of Criminal Investigation after the attack on the synagogue in Halle in 2020.
According to its chairman, the community has around 200 members. Fortunately, the panic room has not had to be used so far, said Blender.
The installation of the video surveillance system can potentially deter potential crimes against the synagogue. Despite the gift, the importance of religion in maintaining community safety remains paramount.
