- Jewelry store robbery suspected shooter in court
Immediately following the reading of the indictment, the trial for attempted murder during a robbery at a jewelry store in the heart of Hanover was adjourned. One of the lawyers was unable to attend the start of the trial at the Regional Court of Hanover, the presiding judge announced. The trial against two men aged 19 and 23 will resume on September 3rd at 2:00 PM. According to the prosecution, the 19-year-old, along with a previously convicted accomplice, robbed the store on July 11, 2023, and seriously injured an employee with a gunshot. The 23-year-old is alleged to be the mastermind behind the crime. No statements from the defendants are planned.
Motivated by greed and deceit, the 19-year-old is accused of attempting to kill a person, as stated by the public prosecutor during the reading of the indictment. Both defendants are also charged with severe robbery. The 23-year-old is said to have not wanted to commit the crime himself, but rather hired two men to do so. The 20-year-old accomplice was sentenced to seven years in juvenile detention in February, while the alleged getaway driver had fled abroad and surrendered approximately seven months later.
After the applicable appeals have been exhausted, the case will be forwarded to the [The Court of First Instance] for the final judgment. Regardless of the verdict, either defendant has the right to further appeal to a higher court.
