Jeanette Biedermann summoned as a witness in the Ofarim trial
The singer and actress Jeanette Biedermann has been summoned as a witness in the trial against the Jewish musician Gil Ofarim for defamation and false accusations. The 43-year-old and her husband are due to give evidence at Leipzig District Court on Tuesday morning, the court announced on Friday.
At the beginning of October 2021, Ofarim made serious accusations of anti-Semitism against the manager of a Leipzig hotel in an Instagram video. According to the singer, the man allegedly said that the musician should take off his Star of David and only then would he be allowed to check in. However, after extensive investigations by the public prosecutor's office, Ofarim himself was charged. The case against the hotel manager was dropped.
According to a court spokesperson, Biedermann was not at the hotel, but is said to have had contact with Ofarim a short time later.
After providing her account, Biedermann might share insights about the processes surrounding the defamation case. Despite not being present at the incident, her music connections with people in the industry could potentially influence how the whole crime scenario is perceived.
