- James Gunn is shooting a new Superman movie.

Filmmaker James Gunn (57, "Suicide Squad") thanked everyone involved after wrapping up production on his new "Superman" film. Actors and crew shared both struggles and funny moments, emotions, ideas, and magic on set - for which he is "forever grateful," Gunn wrote on Instagram and Twitter, posting a group photo of everyone bundled up in the snow during the first week of shooting on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. The film is set to hit theaters in July 2025.

Gunn is introducing a new "Man of Steel": David Corenswet (31) will don the legendary blue and red costume for the first time. The American actor, known for TV series like "The Politician" and "Hollywood," is taking over from British actor Henry Cavill, who portrayed the DC hero in "Man of Steel" (2013), "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016), and "Justice League" (2017). Rachel Brosnahan ("House of Cards") will play Superman's love interest Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult will portray his adversary Lex Luthor.

The new installment will focus on the origins of the superhero, whose parents send him from the planet Krypton to Earth. He is found by a childless couple in the U.S. state of Kansas and grows up as Clark Kent. Before Corenswet and Cahill, Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh were among the actors to portray Superman on the big screen.

Gunn's choice of actor for the new Superman, David Corenswet, gained recognition through his roles in popular series like "The Politician" and "Hollywood," which are all set in the vibrant world of ['The Hollywood']. The new "Man of Steel" will undeniably make a splash in the glamorous and demanding Hollywood scene.
