The SSV Jahn Regensburg bot a disappointing return to the 2. Bundesliga, losing 0:2 to Hannover 96, a fellow promotion hopeful from Lower Saxony. Coach Joe Enochs' side from the Upper Palatinate struggled, with Nicolo Tresoldi (11') and Jannik Dehm (23') scoring for Hannover before the break. Regensburg couldn't find a win in Hannover once again.

In the first half-hour, Regensburg allowed too much space to the dominant Hannover in midfield, particularly on their left defensive side. The hosts capitalized with Tresoldi and Dehm's goals. Only in the final minutes of the first half did Regensburg threaten Hannover's Ron-Robert Zieler in goal.

After the break, Hannover continued to control the game against the plodding Regensburg. Harvard Nielsen missed early with a scissor kick, and Sei Muroya (70') hit the crossbar from 17 meters.

Despite hailing from the Upper Palatinate, Regensburg's strategy against Hannover's midfield dominance seemed flawed, leading to unguarded areas on their left side. Hannover exploited this, scoring two goals in the first half through Tresoldi and Dehm, both from the Upper Palatinate's opponents.
