The defending champions Italy headed to their accommodation in Germany for the European Championship on Monday night, greeted by hundreds of excited fans. Their first match is against long shots Albania this Saturday evening in Dortmund (9pm on ARD and MagentaTV).

One of the first players to reach Dortmund airport was Nicolo Barella, a midfielder from Inter Milan. With some key players missing due to injuries, such as Francesco Acerbi, Giorgio Scalvini, Domenico Berardi, and Sandro Tonali, Barella is now also raising concerns for Italy.

The 27-year-old Barella hasn't played in the last two European Championship warm-up games against Turkey (0:0) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (1:0) due to a muscle injury. Before leaving for Germany, Coach Luciano Spalletti stated reassuringly, "We're optimistic that Barella's injury situation is under control."
