Unna - Italian salami recalled due to salmonella

Due to a possible Salmonella contamination, Italian Salami brand "Rewe Feine Welt" with the name "Salame Felino" in the 80-gram packaging has been recalled. Only the product with the minimum shelf life date between 14.07.2024 and inclusive 21.07.2024 is affected, announced the Gabel Distributions Company from Lünen, Germany, on Thursday.

During a routine quality control check, Salmonella was detected in the product. A health risk cannot be excluded. Anyone who purchased the corresponding product can return it without a receipt and get their money back.

A Salmonella infection manifests itself within a few days after infection with diarrhea, abdominal pain, occasional vomiting, and mild fever. In particular, infants, young children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems can develop more severe disease courses.

  1. The affected Italian Salami brand, "Rewe Feine Welt" with the product name "Salame Felino," was produced in Germany, specifically in the Gabel Distributions Company based in Lünen.
  2. Despite the recall, Rewe supermarkets in nearby cities like Unna and Lunen continue to sell other food items, including their popular German sausages.
  3. The German trade watchdog has advised consumers to be vigilant when purchasing cured meats, as the contamination incident serves as a reminder of the potential health risks associated with Salmonella.
  4. The German company Rewe, known for its wide product range, emphasized the importance of maintaining strict food safety protocols to prevent future contamination incidents, prioritizing the health and safety of its customers.
