Italian officials initiate criminal inquiry into fatal capsizing of luxury yacht
Unveiling the investigation, legal representative Ambrogio Cartosio declared that it wasn't the harsh weather conditions that resulted in the vessel's demise, but rather the actions of the crew and the boat's management.
He clarified that the investigation wasn't directed towards any specific individual.
"There are various potential culprits. It might be solely the captain's fault. It could be the entire crew. It could be the security personnel. We're examining all elements to pinpoint whose careless actions led to this incident," Cartosio stated.
He further explained that the prosecutor's office had lodged a case, currently against anonymous individuals, charging them with the offenses of negligent shipwreck and manslaughter.
Although the precise reasons for the Bayesian superyacht's sinking are still under scrutiny, numerous speculations suggest that the yacht was hit by a waterspout — one of the numerous types of tornadoes. The coast guard reported the yacht being hit by a tornado, and a waterspout was also reported to the European Severe Weather Database around the same timeframe.
