IT-issues are disrupting airports Berlin and Hamburg - clinic cancels surgeries

Shortly after the start of summer vacations in Berlin and Brandenburg, passengers at BER Airport in Schönefeld must show patience. An IT issue is paralyzing the main capital airport. There are also problems in Hamburg. A hospital in Kiel and Lübeck is canceling surgeries.

At Berlin's BER Airport in Schönefeld, no planes are taking off or landing at the moment. Due to a technical issue, there are delays in processing, according to a airport spokesperson speaking to ntv.de. The flight operations have been halted until 10 a.m., but there are occasional departures. According to RBB, it was a server failure that triggered multiple emergency systems. However, there is no confirmation of this.

The Berlin "Tagesspiegel" reports that the first official information about the issue in the airport terminal came at 8:15 a.m. The issue occurred a day after the start of summer vacations in Berlin and Brandenburg.

Worldwide problems with computer systems are also disrupting check-ins and departures for airlines at Hamburg Airport, according to a spokesperson. Four airlines are affected: Eurowings, Ryanair, Vueling, Turkish Airlines. The airlines will initially issue tickets manually.

Meanwhile, the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein is canceling all planned surgeries at its locations in Kiel and Lübeck due to a large-scale technical issue. The hospital announced this on its website.

Reports indicate a global issue with Microsoft. Whether there is a connection is unclear at this time. According to the BBC, similar incidents have occurred at all Spanish airports. Airports in the Australian cities of Melbourne and Sydney are also affected by the issue. United Airlines is keeping all planes on the ground at the moment.

The economic impact of the IT issue at Berlin Brandenburg Airport - BER is significant, as numerous flights are delayed or canceled. The technical glitch at Hamburg Airport is causing similar issues for several airlines, potentially leading to financial losses.
