IT failures at Potsdam hospital: emergency room canceled
Due to a power supply fault, the Ernst von Bergmann Hospital in Potsdam had to restrict operations for some time on Wednesday. As a precautionary measure, the emergency room was shut down by the control center, the hospital announced. There were failures in the IT systems. The regional control center in Potsdam, which according to its own information had more operations than usual due to the winter weather with slippery roads, also informed the population via Warnapp.
"Due to the current weather conditions and a technical fault at the Ernst von Bergmann Hospital in Potsdam, we are in a state of medical emergency," it said in a warning app on Wednesday afternoon. Ambulances had to travel to other clinics, a spokesperson for the regional control center said when asked. Citizens should not call the emergency services for trivial matters due to the disruption.
The clinic in Potsdam - the largest hospital in the state capital - announced in the afternoon that there had been campus-wide IT failures due to problems with the power supply. As a result, laboratory tests, for example, could not be evaluated automatically and the telephone system was also briefly interrupted. For this reason, the Central Emergency Department was logged off at the control center as a precautionary measure after coordination with the fire department. Shortly after 2 p.m., the hospital restored emergency care and also resumed regular operations.
The Ernst von Bergmann Hospital, experiencing IT failures due to a power supply issue, temporarily shut down its emergency room as a precaution. Despite the challenges at the Potsdam hospital, it's important for citizens to only contact emergency services for serious matters during disruptions.
