Commemoration - Israel's Consul General thanks for solidarity: Commemoration

Israel's Consul General Talya Lador-Fresher said she felt "embraced" by the many flags of her state that were recently raised in Hesse. At a memorial service in the Wiesbaden state parliament on Tuesday, she thanked Hesse for standing firmly by the side of the Israelis on the occasion of the Islamist terror against her home country. On November 9, the 85th anniversary of the victims of the Reich pogroms of 1938 in Germany, Hesse's state government recommended that the European, German, Hessian and Israeli flags be flown on public buildings.

At the same time, Lador-Fresher emphasized that her country was still traumatized after the terrorist attack on Israel by the radical Islamic group Hamas on 7 October, which claimed around 1,200 lives:"Children were shot in front of their parents and parents in front of their children." According to Lador-Fresher, the Israeli "military operation" against Hamas in the Gaza Strip is not directed against civilians, who are used by the terrorists as shields. Israel has the right to defend its territory, the diplomat emphasized 60 days after the Hamas attack. She received a long round of applause in parliament.

Parliament President Astrid Wallmann (CDU) said: "Since October 7, this world is a different one." She assured Israel of Hesse's "unwavering solidarity". With regard to some demonstrators in Germany who had questioned Israel's existence and in some cases even justified the terror of Hamas, Wallmann emphasized: "I am ashamed of this." She commemorated the Israeli dead - and also the "innocent victims" on the "Palestinian side".
