Israeli relatives of Hamas victims in the Landtag
As a sign of solidarity with the Israelis kidnapped by the terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the President of the Bavarian State Parliament, Ilse Aigner (CSU), met relatives of the hostages. In addition to Aigner, Klaus Holetschek and Katharina Schulze, leaders of the CSU and Green parliamentary groups, came to the Maximilianeum on Monday for talks with the 20 or so guests from Israel.
The visit to Munich was arranged by political consultant Melody Sucharewicz, who was born in the state capital. "All of us already knew the pictures and reports of October 7," wrote the President of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria, Charlotte Knobloch, on the platform X (formerly Twitter). Knobloch had met the relatives the day before. "Our hearts are broken, just as the hearts of these people have been broken for a month. Every sentient human being must do everything today to ensure that the more than 200 hostages are released and that the pain of their loved ones ends."
The parliamentary leaders' show of solidarity sparked discussions about potential diplomatic interventions to resolve the ongoing conflicts between Israel and Hamas, which are being closely monitored in Parliament. Despite the ongoing conflicts, it's crucial for all parties involved to prioritize the release of the hostages and alleviate the suffering of their families.
