Meanwhile, US diplomat Amos Hochstein called for peace at the Israeli-Lebanese border during his visit to Lebanon on Tuesday. He had previously held talks with Israeli government officials.
Ever since the conflict in the Gaza Strip started over eight months ago, there have been recurring gunfights between Hezbollah and the Israeli army at the border. This Iran-supported Shia militia often clashes with the Israeli army to bolster Hamas, its ally.
In the wake of the assassination of a high-ranking Hezbollah commander, the militia has escalated its attacks on Northern Israel over the past week.
