Israeli military official claims management of passageway between Gaza and Egypt.

In 1979, a corridor was established through a peace agreement between Israel and Egypt. This passageway was utilized by the Israeli military until they withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005 as a path for patrolling. Suspicions have grown over time that militant groups in the Palestinian territory leverage this corridor for arms smuggling.

Recently, in the Gaza Strip's southern area, situated on the border with Egypt, the Israeli army moves into Rafah's city center. Israel believes that the last remaining Hamas regiments in the Gaza Strip operate from this locale. Despite international condemnation, Israel has been launching strikes on targets within the city for several weeks. Earlier in May, the Israeli army declared capture of the Rafah border crossing.

The confrontation between Israel and Hamas, categorized as a terrorist organization by both the United States and the EU, has lasted over seven months. Hamas militants launched attacks on Israel on October 7, resulting in estimated deaths of 1189 individuals, along with the abduction and relocation of 252 people as hostages.

In response to this unanticipated assault, Israel has engaged in massive military actions within the Gaza Strip. As per data from the Hamas-controlled health ministry, 36,100 casualties have been reported so far. However, these figures cannot be independently confirmed.
