Israeli ambassador at conference of justice ministers
Berlin's Senator for Justice Felor Badenberg (non-party) believes that Jewish life in Germany must be more consistently protected under criminal law than it has been to date. Together with her colleague from Hesse, Roman Poseck (CDU), she wants to discuss the possibilities for this at the fall conference of justice ministers on November 10 in Berlin. Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor and the President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster, are also due to take part, as announced by the Senate Justice Administration on Friday.
Following the terrorist attack on Israel by Islamist Hamas on October 7, Badenberg and Poseck are also in favor of tightening criminal law in light of anti-Semitic riots at pro-Palestinian demonstrations. It should be possible to punish the denial of Israel's right to exist.
Berlin is currently chairing the conference of justice ministers. So far, the justice ministers want to discuss more than 20 topics. These include better legal protection for victims of insults and threats on the internet and a more effective fight against organized crime.
In view of the anti-Semitic incidents at pro-Palestinian demonstrations, Badenberg and Poseck advocate for strengthening criminal law to potentially penalize the denial of Israel's right to exist. Additionally, the fight against extremism, including its manifestations in the form of religious or political conflicts, should also be a focus in the ongoing discussion on conflicts related to crime at the conference of justice ministers.
