Israel refutes claims of additional assault on tent community close to Rafah.
"Israel's military claims they haven't assaulted the humanitarian zone of Al-Mawasi, which they designated earlier in May. Previously, they requested the location of the supposed attack from the AFP news agency. As stated by Palestinian Civil Defense and Hamas, there were numerous casualties in an Israeli bombing in the mentioned area.
On the night from Sunday to Monday, a UN Palestinian refugee camp in Rafah was targeted by an Israeli air attack. As reported by the ministry under Hamas control, 45 individuals were killed and more than 240 were injured.
This bombing triggered a fire in the camp, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense. Their report mentioned "dismembered and charred bodies." This event caused shock internationally. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, called it an "accident with tragic consequences." The Israeli army launched an inquiry.
Investigations by the army showed that the fire was caused by an additional explosion after the Israeli assault - not just because of the bombing. Army spokesman Daniel Hagari said, "Our ammunition wouldn't have caused such a large fire on its own."
The attack was based on "accurate intelligence," Hagari further elaborated. A total of two charges weighing 17 kilograms of "explosive substance" were strategically dropped on a spot in the northwest of Rafah, where two senior Hamas officials were present. The aim was not close to camps for displaced refugees. The army is still scrutinizing all possible scenarios, "including the opportunity that weapons stored in the camp near the target were detonated."
Israel has been targeting the last remaining Hamas units in the Gaza Strip in the city of Rafah, near the border with Egypt. Since then, they've been bombing objectives in Rafah despite heavy condemnation from around the globe. On Tuesday, Israeli tanks moved into Rafah's center, as per onlookers' accounts."
