- Islamic Center Frankfurt sues against closure
After the ban of a nationwide active Islamist association, the Center of Islamic Culture Frankfurt has filed a lawsuit and an urgent application against the ban. On Wednesday, the lawsuit and the urgent application were submitted to the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig against the Federal Ministry of the Interior, a spokesperson confirmed. The court is now dealing with the matter.
The Frankfurt association is one of five subsidiary organizations of the banned Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH). Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) had banned the IZH at the end of July because, in the assessment of her ministry, it propagated the establishment of an authoritarian Islamic regime. It spreads the ideology of the so-called "Islamic Revolution" in Germany in an aggressive and combative manner as a direct representative of the Iranian "Supreme Leader", as stated in a notice.
Community defends against ban
Since the ban, community members have been gathering regularly to protest against the closure, which they consider a serious violation of religious freedom, the association recently stated.
"We remain determined to exhaust all legal means to fight for the reopening of our mosque." The Imam Ali Moschee has always been a place of peaceful prayer and interreligious dialogue.
The Frankfurt association, in solidarity with the banned Islamic Center Hamburg, has expressed its intention to use the 'BFG' (Bundesverfassungsgericht or Federal Constitutional Court) as a last resort to contest the ban. Despite the ban, the association's members continue to organize weekly protests, viewing it as a significant infringement on their religious freedom.
