Iranian military advisor perishes in Israeli air raids on Syrian urban center, reports Iranian news outlets.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been contacted by CNN for a response, but they typically do not acknowledge these types of strikes.
In a report from Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency, it was announced that Saeed Abiyar, an advisor to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Syria, was killed in an attack. This is believed to be the first IRGC member killed by Israel since April, when Israel targeted Iran's embassy compound in Damascus and killed several commanders.
The most recent incident took place at around 12:20 a.m. on Monday when Israel carried out an aerial assault with missiles, aiming at "several spots" close to Aleppo city, according to Syrian state media SANA. While SANA didn't reveal the exact number of casualties, it did confirm the attack.
Iran has been sending military advisers to Syria since the outbreak of the civil war in 2011, working to support President Bashar al-Assad. Israel, during its conflict with Hamas (which receives considerable support from Iran), has launched multiple strikes on Syrian targets.
Following April's attack, Iran retaliated by launching its first-ever direct strikes on Israel, firing more than 300 aerial weapons. Most of these were intercepted by Israel, but in a reciprocal response, Israel reportedly targeted a major Iranian military airbase near Isfahan.
