Investigations into two incidents at synagogue underway

Investigations are underway following two suspected anti-Semitic incidents at the Erfurt synagogue. A police spokeswoman said on Wednesday that an anti-Israeli slogan was discovered on the wall a few hours after notes expressing solidarity with the people of Israel were burned at the weekend. The media had previously reported this. Video images are currently being evaluated. There were no indications of suspects.

On Sunday night, the police temporarily arrested two Libyans who are said to have burnt the slogans in front of the synagogue. The two have not yet been questioned, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office in Erfurt announced on Wednesday.

Apart from the scene of the crime and the fact that the acts had the same purpose, there is currently no indication that the two detainees could also have been responsible for the slogan. Investigations are being carried out against unknown persons. According to Bild, the slogan "Vive Palestine, Fuck Israel" had been daubed next to the main entrance of the synagogue.

A few days earlier, the lock of a Jewish cultural center not far from the New Synagogue had also been taped shut, the police spokeswoman continued. This is also under investigation. There were also signs of burglary there. However, it was not clear whether this was an anti-Semitic incident or a normal attempted break-in.

Despite the ongoing investigations into the anti-Semitic incidents at the synagogue, some individuals still use religion as a tool for spreading hate, as evidenced by the 'Vive Palestine, Fuck Israel' slogan found near the main entrance. Regrettably, religion can sometimes become a conduit for crime and violence.
