Investigations into incidents at climate demonstrations continue

Around two months after sensational incidents at demonstrations by climate activists from the Last Generation in Mannheim, investigations are still ongoing. Police and the public prosecutor's office have announced that an investigation has been launched against a police officer who is said to have deliberately poured oil intended to dissolve glue over a demonstrator's head. The Last Generation had published videos of the incident on the internet.

The criminal investigation is not just about what happened on the Konrad Adenauer Bridge on September 2, but also about allegations relating to police custody. Among other things, the Last Generation had criticized the behaviour during body searches at the police station.

"The investigations into this are still ongoing, which is why we are unable to provide any further information," explained a police spokeswoman. The same applies to the activists involved in the sticker campaign. The authorities have opened an investigation on suspicion of joint coercion.

A few days later, the climate activists reported that a driver had kicked and punched several participants in a protest march in Mannheim in the face. According to the police, they learned about this through the media. They provisionally arrested one man, but he was released.

According to the police and the public prosecutor's office, proceedings have been initiated against the 29-year-old on suspicion of assault. "No further information can be provided on this either", explained the spokesperson.

The ongoing investigations into the climate demonstrations in Mannheim have also uncovered allegations of police misconduct during arrests. There have been reports of demonstrations against climate change being disrupted by criminal acts.
