Death - Investigations against two care facility employees

Following the death of an elderly woman, two employees of a care facility in the Upper Palatinate are being investigated on suspicion of manslaughter. As the Regensburg public prosecutor's office reported on Tuesday, the 93-year-old woman was allegedly given a strong painkiller without medical necessity. This is said to have led to the death of the senior citizen. The case was initially reported in the newspapers of the Bavarian media group.

On Monday, the care facility in Furth im Wald (district of Cham) was searched. One of the two accused persons is said to have given the patient an opioid without a doctor's prescription. The second person is said to have provided the medication for this purpose. "The accused have not yet commented on the suspected crime," said Chief Public Prosecutor Thomas Rauscher.

He pointed out that the presumption of innocence continues to apply to the accused. Due to the early stage of the proceedings, no further details can be provided at present for reasons of investigative tactics and personal privacy.
