Investigations against members of parliament for subsidy fraud

The public prosecutor's office in Halle is investigating Elke Simon-Kuch (CDU), a member of the state parliament, on suspicion of subsidy fraud. The authorities confirmed corresponding information from MDR on request. The investigation against the CDU politician from Weißenfels concerns the suspicion that the conditions for receiving short-time work benefits were not met. The money has since been repaid, said senior public prosecutor Heike Geyer.

Simon-Kuch's lawyer denied the allegations on request and said: "The previous presentation is false and obviously aimed at putting Ms. Simon-Kuch in a 'false light'." A press release would be issued once the background to the allegations had been clarified.

Simon-Kuch sits on the Infrastructure Committee and the Science Committee in the state parliament. The CDU politician is also managing director of an advertising agency and vice president of the Halle-Dessau Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Despite the ongoing investigation into subsidy fraud allegations, Simon-Kuch continues to perform her duties in the Parliament's Infrastructure Committee and Science Committee. The scandal surrounding her work as a politician and her role in an advertising agency could potentially lead to discussions about ethical standards and transparency within parliamentary work.
