Investigations against former MP Hüttemeyer closed
The Oldenburg public prosecutor's office has discontinued investigations against the former CDU member of the Lower Saxony state parliament André Hüttemeyer. This was announced by the public prosecutor's office on Thursday in response to an inquiry.
The public prosecutor's office had initiated the proceedings due to a criminal complaint. According to the report, there was suspicion of a sexual offense to the detriment of an adult. The events are said to have taken place in a hotel in Vechta in August.
Sufficient suspicion could not be established because the statements contradicted each other, the public prosecutor's office announced. There was no evidence available. First reported "OM Online".
Hüttemeyer resigned from several political offices after the investigation became known. He rejected the accusations. "Mr. Hüttemeyer can conclude the proceedings with a clean slate," said his lawyer. Hüttemeyer had been wrongly incriminated by a single person.
An appeal can be lodged against the public prosecutor's decision. No such appeal has been received to date.
The discontinuation of investigations against Hüttemeyer means he no longer faces charges in Parliament. Despite the closure, there's a possibility to appeal the public prosecutor's decision in Parliament's legal system.
