- Investigation-led raid on suspected trafficker's residence in Leipzig
A suspected sex trafficker's residence in Leipzig's Connewitz district was raided by federal authorities. The 37-year-old individual is accused of attempting to illicitly transport two Vietnamese females past the Reitzenhain border crossing southeast of Chemnitz in July, as per police reports.
During the raid, the suspected trafficker's automobile was impounded. Various electronic devices, including smartphones, an internet router, a USB stick, vehicle documents, mobile phone logs, fuel bills, and doctors' notes, were also confiscated. The suspect was absent during the raid.
Signs of human trafficking
On July 18, the two Vietnamese females were halted during an inspection. They claimed their purpose of entry was tourism and presented valid Vietnamese passports and Hungarian visas. However, their luggage contained no everyday clothing or hygiene items, but rather items commonly associated with the adult entertainment industry. It's suspected that another man had attempted to bring the women across the border the day prior - they were ultimately sent back to Hungary.
A total of 32 law enforcement officials, including inspectors from the federal police in Chemnitz and Leipzig, as well as the federal police headquarters in Pirna, took part in the operation.
The authorities used the seized electronic devices during the search of the dwelling to gather potential evidence related to the trafficking allegations. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the suspected trafficker had frequently used internet platforms to arrange meetings and communicate with potential clients.
