Public prosecutor's office - Investigation into the gruesome murder of a prostitute

Following the death of a suspected prostitute in Koblenz last week, the public prosecutor's office is investigating a case of joint cruel murder. A 47-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were arrested one day after the abused woman was found and taken into custody, the authorities announced on Thursday. "According to the preliminary results of the autopsy, it must be assumed that she was massively abused and tortured to death over a long period of time," it said.

On the night of November 22, the emergency services were reportedly alerted that there was a woman in an apartment in Koblenz who needed help. When the helpers arrived, the 31-year-old Bulgarian woman was already unconscious and had suffered a cardiac arrest. She was taken to a clinic, where she died shortly afterwards. According to the report, she was in a "catastrophic overall condition" when the emergency doctor arrived and had "severe injuries all over her body".

During the investigation, the 47-year-old man and the 40-year-old woman were suspected of the crime. The two Bulgarians lived in the same house as the victim and, according to the authorities' findings to date, had been active in the red-light district for years. Based on the evidence and the seized evidence such as photos, the investigators assume that they "cruelly tortured and massively abused the woman over a long period of time in an inhumane manner". In doing so, they had at least accepted her death.

"The seized photos as well as the outward appearance of the tortured victim are disturbing even for experienced investigators and reveal an inhuman cruelty that is shocking and repulsive," said Chief Public Prosecutor Mario Mannweiler. The two accused have not yet made any statements.
