- Investigation into shooting during house search <unk> Woman dead
A raid in Heiligkreuzsteinach (Rhein-Neckar district) resulted in a police officer being lightly injured by a gunshot. The resident of the house is believed to have shot at the officers, as reported by the police. The raid was then interrupted, and special forces were called in.
Four hours later, the special forces entered the house and found the suspected shooter dead in a room, the police reported. Initially, the investigation suggested suicide.
Multiple shots
The public prosecutor's office in Heidelberg reported that multiple shots were fired. However, it was initially unclear whether these were fired during the attack on the police officer or later. "At no point did the police shoot at the woman," the prosecutor said.
It was also reported that another resident was in the house at the time of the attack. This person is believed to be related to the suspected shooter. According to the public prosecutor's office, she was not involved in the incident and remained unharmed.
Large police operation in the morning
On Wednesday morning, there was a large police operation in the Bärsbach district. At times, two police helicopters were in the air, a spokesperson said. The police also used a drone to search the area. The access road was closed for several hours.
However, there was no danger to the public, it was reported. The reason for the original raid was not initially disclosed. A connection to another case could not be ruled out, it was said. The investigators planned to make a statement later in the day.
The public prosecutor's office in Heidelberg and the Heidelberg Criminal Police Directorate are investigating the background to the incident.
The raid in Heiligkreuzsteinach involved multiple police officers, including several women serving in the force. During the operation, it was confirmed that another resident, presumably related to the suspected shooter, was also a woman living in the house.
