Investigations underway following unusual highway incident near Neumünster

The day after an unusual accident on the A7 highway near Neumünster, where a police officer fired a deliberate shot, investigations are ongoing. A 55-year-old man is now being investigated for suspected attempted dangerous bodily harm, threat, and possible further offenses, according to Kiel's chief prosecutor, Henning Hadeler.

On Monday, the man was driving at high speed in a zigzag pattern across all lanes, according to police reports. Officers in two unmarked police cars, who were in the area, attempted to stop and control the 55-year-old. His car crashed and overturned. He then exited the vehicle and threatened the police with a knife. After unsuccessful attempts to drop the knife and a warning shot into the air, an officer fired a shot into the man's thigh.

The 55-year-old was taken to a hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable. No further details on the investigation or the circumstances surrounding the incident have been provided by Hadeler. A separate procedure will examine the circumstances of the shooting.

The A7 was fully closed in the direction of the south between the Neumünster Nord and Neumünster-Mitte junctions for several hours following the incident, causing significant traffic disruptions.

The police are reviewing all details related to the unusual highway accident near Neumünster, as several serious offenses are under investigation due to the incident. Due to the dangerous behavior of the 55-year-old driver during the accident, the possibility of other related accidents cannot be ruled out.
