Public prosecutor's office - Investigation against Lünen mayor
Mayor Jürgen Kleine-Frauns (non-party) is now also under investigation in connection with allegations of abuse against the former deputy mayor of Lünen. There is suspicion of a breach of official secrecy and attempted obstruction of justice in office, explained the Dortmund public prosecutor's office on Friday in response to a dpa inquiry.
A spokesperson for the city in the district of Unna said that the mayor spoke about the suspicion on Thursday evening in the city's main and finance committee. He read out a statement that was published on social media after the meeting. In it, Kleine-Frauns emphasizes that he has nothing to reproach himself for. Several media outlets such as "Bild" and "Ruhr Nachrichten" had reported.
The former deputy mayor of Lünen, Daniel Wolski, was remanded in custody at the end of October for allegedly sexually abusing minors in return for payment. His defense lawyer did not want to comment on the allegations at the time. The Bochum public prosecutor's office is investigating several cases since 2018. Wolski had resigned while in custody.
The spokesperson for the Dortmund public prosecutor said that Mayor Kleine-Frauns had forwarded an email alleging possible sexual misconduct by Wolski to Wolski as his deputy at the time and then deleted it. According to the suspicion, Kleine-Frauns had not informed the police.
In his statement, the mayor said that in January 2023 he had received "an email sent under a false name in which the offer of a meeting for money was discussed, but no specific criminal offense was described". He was certain at the time "that there was a threat of a perfidious smear campaign against my deputy at the time". He therefore informed Wolski and deleted the email.
