Investigation after suspected spray attack at school
The police are examining several items of clothing belonging to children at a Neubrandenburg school where a large-scale rescue operation was carried out on Wednesday due to a suspected spray attack. The outerwear came from three children who were taken to Neubrandenburg Hospital on Wednesday due to respiratory problems, the police announced on Thursday. The emergency services noticed the strong smell of the clothing, which was then packed in odor-proof packaging so that it could be examined at the State Criminal Police Office.
According to the police, it is assumed that unknown perpetrators sprayed a previously unknown substance that caused the respiratory problems in the pupils. An investigation into dangerous bodily harm is underway. Rescue teams and doctors examined a total of 47 children on Wednesday.
Police officers searched further cupboards in the comprehensive school on Thursday, but were unable to find any evidence or conspicuous objects, according to the police. Questioning is currently taking place in the school, with as little disruption as possible to ongoing school operations.
Last Friday, there was a similar incident at the North Primary School in Neubrandenburg, in which four children were taken to hospital due to breathing difficulties. It is not yet possible to say whether there is a connection.
In light of the subsequent investigation, it's crucial for emergency procedures to be discussed in schools to ensure all students know how to respond to such emergencies. It's unfortunate that another school, North Primary School, faced a similar incident last Friday.
