Investigation after insults against Green MPs

The constituency office of Berlin Green MP Jian Omar has been smeared with faeces, according to him. The migration policy spokesperson for the Green parliamentary group in the state parliament announced this on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. "We are still being attacked in my constituency office in Moabit," Omar complained. Only last Friday, he had also reported an attack against him on X. Now the entrance to his office was blocked with a chest of drawers and smeared with excrement on Friday night.

Omar does not want to give in to the hate

Freeloaders were obviously also using these attacks to give free rein to their hatred and racism, Omar continued. "I will not bow to this hatred and will not stop my work."

A spokeswoman for the Berlin police confirmed that a corresponding complaint by the MP was recorded on Friday. According to her, there have been a total of four incidents since Friday of the previous week, after which the MP has filed charges of insulting and inciting hatred, in the first two cases against an older woman who allegedly insulted him in or in front of his constituency office.

State security takes over investigation

"We are investigating whether the 61-year-old woman is possibly the suspect in all four incidents," said the spokeswoman. "The investigation is being carried out by a specialized police department from the State Criminal Police Office."

Green Party parliamentary group leaders Bettina Jarasch and Werner Graf said on Friday that they were appalled by the hatred. The attacks were obviously aimed at intimidating Jian Omar and others who actively campaign for refugees, migrants and against all forms of misanthropy. "In view of the ongoing attacks, we expect the police to take concrete measures to increase the safety of our colleague and his staff."

In light of these hate- fueled incidents, the Green members of the House of Representatives have expressed concern about rising extremism in politics. These acts of vandalism against Green MP Jian Omar, including the smearing of his office with faeces and blocking the entrance with a chest of drawers, are reminiscent of the tactics used by extremist groups at party events.
