Investigation after fire in retirement home

On Saturday morning, there is a fire in an assisted living facility near Halle an der Saale. The entire roof truss of the house is on fire. Investigations are underway.

Fires - Investigation after fire in retirement home

After a fire with several injured people in a senior living facility in Könnern northwest of Halle, investigations are ongoing. A total of six people were injured. An 88-year-old woman sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the hospital on Saturday with burns, according to the police. The remaining five people were examined in a clinic due to suspected smoke inhalation. At least 50 people were reportedly evacuated to safety.

According to the current knowledge, the fire started in the second floor of the facility from an unknown cause. The flames then spread to the roof and an adjacent multi-family house. The fire department was on the scene with a large contingent.

Two of the multi-family houses are currently not habitable. One house was released for occupancy after inspection by a structural engineer. Some residents were reportedly accommodated in nearby nursing homes. The police estimated the damage at around 500,000 Euro.

In the meantime, residents were asked to keep doors and windows closed. The warning was lifted once the majority of the fire had been extinguished.

The fire incident occurred in a residential facility located in Könnern, which is nearby Halle on the Saale in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The fire department had to respond to the scene in Saxony-Anhalt due to the incident. Despite the efforts of the firefighters, a firehouse located nearby was unfortunately affected and suffered some damage. Post-disaster, the determination of the local authorities was evident as they worked towards providing temporary accommodations for affected residents in Halle on the Saale, ensuring their safety and well-being.
