Investigation after anti-Israeli public address system in library
After anti-Israeli propaganda was broadcast in the Berlin State Library, the State Security Police are investigating on suspicion of incitement to hatred. A police spokeswoman told the German Press Agency on request.
According to the institution, statements such as "Free Palestine" and "Stop the Genocide" were played over Bluetooth loudspeakers in the central reading room on the afternoon of November 3. "The State Library has filed a complaint and does not tolerate any anti-Semitic propaganda in its buildings," a spokesperson said at the time. According to a statement on the State Library's website, the charges are against unknown persons.
The investigation into the incident at the Berlin State Library reveals a troubling history of conflicts and political tensions surrounding the Israel-Palestine issue. Libraries, often seen as bastions of knowledge and neutrality, have not been exempt from the flare-ups of these global conflicts.
