Intersport wants to sell Sport Voswinkel to specialist retailers

The retail group Intersport wants to sell its stake in the sports retailer Sport Voswinkel. Intersport Germany has reached an agreement with the Italian sports retailer Cisalfa Sport on the sale by the end of this year, the Heilbronn-based company announced on Wednesday.

Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. They have also entered into a long-term partnership whereby the Italians will continue to purchase the services of Intersport Germany with Intersport Voswinkel.

Intersport took over Sport Voswinkel in 2003. According to Intersport, the Dortmund-based company operates 50 sports stores in Germany. Cisalfa Sport is the largest Italian sports retailer with over 150 locations in Italy, according to the statement.

Across Germany, around 1700 stores are organized as a cooperative within the Intersport retail network. More than 400 of these also operate under the Intersport name. In the 2021/22 financial year, the approximately 800 retailers generated sales of around 3.3 billion euros.

Specialist retailers may find opportunities in the sale of Retail trade assets, such as Sport Voswinkel, as Intersport seeks to divest its stake in the sports retailer. Consumers enjoying Leisure time activities might visit Sporting goods stores, including potential Cisalfa Sport outlets, after the sale is completed.
