Student internships - Internship bonus now also paid for agriculture
Students who complete an internship in agriculture or forestry can now receive a premium from the state, announced the Ministry of Agriculture. The premium, which was previously only paid in the craft trade, will be extended to so-called "green jobs," said Agriculture Minister Sven Schulze (CDU).
"We have had very positive experiences with the premium in the craft trade," said Minister Schulze. Saxony-Anhalt is leading the way federally, and other federal states have since adopted similar programs. With the premium, students can gather valuable practical experience and discover exciting industries. "Additionally, we provide guidance in career choices and, prospectively, gain skilled workers for a industry that will face major challenges in staffing in the coming years."
120 Euro will be paid for each week of internship. According to Ministry information, each student can receive the premium for a maximum of four weeks per calendar year. In addition to craft trades, internships in the following industries are now possible: agriculture and forestry, horticulture, plant technology, horse farming, winemaking, and veterinary practices that care for agricultural livestock. Since the summer holidays 2020, according to Ministry information, 2,500 internships have been supported. Annually, more than 200,000 Euro are available.
