Internet acquaintance stabbed to death: Long prison sentence
A man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison by the Mainz Regional Court for attempted murder for stabbing a woman several times in a parking lot. The 24-year-old must also pay the woman 55,000 euros in compensation for pain and suffering, according to the verdict on Friday. The woman lost a kidney as a result of the crime in Mainz last March, and part of her small intestine also had to be removed.
The accused Syrian denied in court that he had intended to kill. He had traveled from Vienna to Mainz to meet the woman, whom he had met over the Internet, for a discussion. The married mother of a two-year-old child had met the man several times before, but had not wanted a relationship. During the meeting, he then stabbed the unsuspecting woman eleven times with a kitchen knife. He handed himself in to the police shortly afterwards.
The court's ruling was based on the evidence presented during the extensive criminal processes. The harsh judgments for such violent crimes serve as a deterrent to prevent similar acts of crime in the future.
