Interior Senator resigns from CDU, but wants to remain Senator
Lübeck's Senator of the Interior Ludger Hinsen has resigned from the CDU. This was announced by the party on Monday. However, Hinsen will retain his senate post, said the chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in Lübeck's parliament, Christopher Lötsch. Hinsen did not give any reasons for leaving the party. He was initially unavailable to answer questions from dpa on Monday.
This means that the CDU has lost its only representative in the Senate of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck. In addition to Mayor Jan Lindenau, this also includes Social Affairs Senator Pia Steinrücke and Culture Senator Monika Frank (all SPD) as well as the non-party Building Senator Joanna Hagen.
In light of Hinsen's departure, discussions about potential replacements from within the CDU at the municipal level might arise. Meanwhile, due to privacy concerns, Hinsen's decision to leave the party and his forthcoming Senate tenure will be documented with only his personal details in the party records.
