- Intense blaze engulfs city heart of Neumünster
In a significant blaze at a commercial building situated in the heart of Neumünster city, four firefighters endured injuries. Two of them sustained burns from scalding water, while the other two were transported to the hospital under suspicion of suffering from smoke inhalation, as disclosed by the fire department's duty officer late on a Sunday evening.
For a prolonged period, up to 100 emergency personnel battled the flames during the climax of the situation. The fire, first reported on Saturday at approximately 21:30, wasn't brought under control until Sunday afternoon. The area was under constant surveillance throughout the afternoon and evening to deter the fire from reigniting. The roads encircling the precarious building remained blocked indefinitely.
The facility, comprising several extensions, also accommodates a hotel that was evacuated due to intense smoke. A store located on the ground floor was annihilated altogether by the fire. A structural expert categorized the building as potentially unstable. The fire department asserted that the structure is inaccessible, and the area has been cordoned off by law enforcement.
As of Sunday, law enforcement and the fire department couldn't disclose the origin of the fire or the extent of the destruction. The fire department's leader hypothesizes that the fire might have initiated in a shed situated behind the house, where several trash bins were entirely consumed by flames.
The intense fire consumed a store on the building's ground floor. Firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames, fearing that the fire might spread and cause further damage, including potentially igniting hidden embers.
