Migration policy - Integration Commissioner launches appeal: Stay human
Thuringia's integration commissioner Mirjam Kruppa has launched an online appeal to objectify the migration debate. "I am concerned about the trend of seeing restrictions on refugees as a solution to the complex social challenges of our time," explained Kruppa in Erfurt on Thursday. She considers increasingly populist and nationalist rhetoric in connection with refugees to be extremely dangerous. The aim is to form an alliance under the motto "#menschlichbleiben".
Brandenburg had already launched a corresponding appeal at the beginning of November, which more than a thousand people had signed within a short space of time.
"The increasing restriction of refugees' rights and freedoms is having a massive impact on their ability to shape their lives," explained Kruppa. The way in which politics is carried out on the backs of refugees also causes problems for those who work for integration on a daily basis.
According to her, a total of 39,000 people from abroad were admitted to Thuringia in 2022, including around 32,000 war refugees from Ukraine. Around 14,000 people seeking protection have arrived so far in 2023.
