Instead of transfers: Hertha's Dardai hopes for returnees

Hertha coach Pal Dardai believes his team is on target after the first half of the season. The return of a number of players gives him hope, but statements from the investor are not much fun.

Bundesliga 2 - Instead of transfers: Hertha's Dardai hopes for returnees

Hertha coach Pal Dardai is only counting on internal reinforcements rather than transfers during the winter break. "I hope that everyone is healthy," said the Hungarian in a media meeting at the second division club on Monday. It would be nice if he could work with all the attacking players at the training camp. The Berliners have been without Ibrahim Maza, Bence and Palko Dardai and Jeremy Dudziak for some time. "These players who can play with their backs to goal."

The 47-year-old is not expecting any transfers. "We don't have ten million euros to make wishes," he said. "As things stand at the moment: if nobody comes, nobody goes." But if a player were to leave the club, "then someone has to come," said Dardai with a laugh.

On Thursday, the team will take their Christmas vacation until January 3. Four days later, the team will travel to a training camp in Spain. Fortuna Düsseldorf will visit the Olympiastadion on January 21 to kick off the second half of the season.

The Berliners finished the first half of the season in seventh place in the table, six points behind third place in the relegation places. Hertha have not been beaten in nine competitive matches and have also reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup.

However, Johannes Spors, head of sport at Hertha investor 777 Partners, sees even more potential in the team. "It's very positive to see how many talented players are getting playing time there. Nevertheless, the squad itself is certainly a bit better than the current standings," he told "Kicker" on Monday.

Dardai was less than enthusiastic. "He shouldn't talk in the air, he should say where," said the coach. "I don't quite agree with that. If someone tells me a, they have to say b. Arguments," said the head coach.
